If nothing else it helps relieve the part of his mind that insist Ryan still has secrets he's keeping from him. Has things that he thinks he needs to hide.

I know sometimes it seems like I'm being a buzzkill, but... I'm not trying to be. That's not who I want to be. I just worry. That doesn't mean I want you to feel like you have to keep this kind of stuff from me. If it's something that bothers you, you don't have to wait for it to come up.

[Not that Ryan is generally the type to need to wait for something to come up most of the time. Usually he says whatever comes to mind whether it's relevant or not. It's different with emotional stuff, though. He can understand that. He struggles to talk about more personal things himself, so it's not like he can blame Ryan for the same thing.]
